For over 27 years, the Aframerican Bookstore has provided local, national and international African American literature to the Omaha community. It is the only African American bookstore in the state of Nebraska. Owner Marshall Taylor opened the bookstore after he recognized the need to provide African American literature and products through a local retail store. According to Taylor, the store was established to “Promote the African centered paradigm by offering a local source of African American literature.”
The bookstore’s environment captures the history and legacy of the African American culture through the books and products carried in the store. Taylor’s goal is to bring awareness of civilizations and a better understanding and appraisal of who made what contributions to our society. Aframerican Bookstore carries an array of books ranging from history, religion, wellness, urban fiction to children books. A variety of other merchandise can also be purchased, such as African themed print art, artifacts, and custom apparel. The Aframerican Bookstore also sells products through its website. Marshall Taylor has made and continues to make, a measurable impact by keeping the community informed and educated on important issues and solutions.
